Natural Suppression of Acne Causing Hormones

Symptoms

The pus of zits, blackheads, and inflammation causing pimples or cysts are most common in teenagers.  This can result in scarring and craters.

Testing for the Cause:

·        Candida Growth: stool or blood analysis

·        Food allergies tests

·        Estrogen/Progesterone/Testosterone Imbalance – saliva hormone analysis

·        Nutritional deficiencies – nutritional testing of blood, urine, or hair

·        Blood sugar testing

The Medical Prescriptions:

Benzoyl peroxide: has side effects of dryness, peeling, redness, scaly eruptions, rash and sensitivity to sunlight.  Research conducted on mice indicates that it has led to rapid development of skin cancer.

Salicylic Acid: in stri-dex, oxy clean and others.  The side effects are similar to benzoyl peroxide.  People with liver, kidney, or circulation or who have diabetes should be careful with this.

Antibiotics: this includes Erythromycina, Tetracycline, and Clindamycin.  Topical antibiotics cause the similar side effects of benzoyl the other 2 drug treatments.  Oral antibiotics can cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin and eyes, and bloody stool.  Severe intestinal problems can also be caused.  Excessive bleeding has also been reported.  A personal belief is that tetracycline should never be taken and doctors who prescribe it should go to prison.

Retinoids: Women who are planning to have children should not take these.  Similar side effects to benzoyl peroxide occur.

The Natural Doctors’ Prescriptions:

Vitex (chastberry): this is an excellent hormone balancer to stop acne and helps for men and women.  Use this or another herbal hormone balancer for at least 6 weeks.  If you see improvements then continue with the same dosage for as long as it is effective.

Dosage: 50mg twice daily (reduce to once daily if acne improves)

Tea Tree Oil:  a randomized clinical trial on 124 patients found that tea tree oil was comparable in effectiveness to using benzoyl peroxide, and of course, tea tree oil doesn’t bleach and kill the skin like benzoyl peroxide does.

Dosage: 5% tea tree oil gel.  (Available in many topical creams or facial rinses)

Guggul: A study published in the Journal of Dermatology tested tetracycline against guggul as a treatment for cystic acne.  Guggul proved to be more effective than tetracycline.  This herb is also commonly used to reduce cholesterol.

Dosage: under a doctor’s supervision take 100,000 to 150,000 IU daily along with 800 IU of vitamin E for 3 to 5 months.  Pregnant and nursing women should not take dosages of 5,000 IU or more.
